Sarah Michelle Geller has backed out of a planned Buffy The Vampire Slayer animated series because she feels the creators of the project are trying to make her famous TV heroine something she was not.

Gellar was the only choice to voice Buffy in the cartoon series and she admits she was initially interested - until she read the script.

She says, "I remember the pitch to me about the cartoon was she could turn into things and have magical powers. To me that wasn't what Buffy was about."

"I am very proud of what we did for women, for young girls, and, to me, Buffy was a real girl. These were metaphors for real demons and how, in highschool, the demons literally became these monsters."

"I'm not sure why you would make an animated show."

Gellar admits she also refused to commit to the show after playing Buffy on TV for six years.

She adds, "I am a commitment-phobe actor right now because I was nothing but contractually bound for years. I was contracted to Buffy, to Scooby Doo - whatever it was - and I don't do something unless I can commit 100 per cent."
