American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino is celebrating after storming to the top of the American singles chart with her debut.

The singer's version of former Idol contestant Tamyra Gray's I Believe has become the first number one debut since second season Idol runner-up Clay Aiken crashed into the top of the charts with This Is The Night last year.

Barrino's hit ends Usher's record-setting 19-week strangle-hold on the chart's top slot.

Usher still boasts three singles in the Hot 100's top 10 - Burn has slipped to number two after eight weeks at number one.
