Will Smith will be keeping Americans warm throughout the winter after donating armfuls of coats to a U.S. TV show's charity coat drive - to make amends for showing up empty handed last year.

The actor appeared on breakfast show Good Morning America on Thursday to promote his new movie Seven Pounds and more than made up for his mishap during the show's 2nd Annual Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Drive.

Piling a mound of coats down into a bin he says, "I was caught off guard because I didn't know you guys were doing a coat drive. The coat I gave was like the coat off my back, so that felt good.

"I only had one last year and that wasn't enough, so I brought more coats."

Last year, 175,125 coats were donated to the cause, which gives clothes to those can't afford them during the winter months.
