New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has welcomed Ugly Betty's move from Los Angeles to New York, revealing it will create more than 200 jobs in the Big Apple.

Producers last week announced the show will move east, to make the most of new tax incentives on offer in New York.

Crewmembers on the L.a. set are bitterly protesting the decision, and 300 staff banded together to take out an ad in trade paper Variety to highlight the resulting job losses.

But Mayor Bloomberg has hailed the employment boost Ugly Betty will bring to New York: "A show about a young woman from Queens whose job combines publishing and fashion was made to be 'made in New York'. Betty's move from LA to Nyc is expected to create at least 200 full and part-time jobs."
