Comedian Jerry Seinfeld has dismissed reports he is to star in a new TV sitcom.

The funnyman was alleged to be in talks with U.s. cable network Nbc for a new show similar to his writing partner Larry David's offbeat Curb Your Enthusiasm.

But Nbc spokeswoman Rebecca Marks has denied the rumours, saying, "There's nothing to it."

And Seinfeld's representative, Elizabeth Clark Zoia, has also shot down the New York Post reports, insisting the rumours are completely false.

She adds, "We appreciate the enthusiasm, however."

Seinfeld's last self-titled sitcom, which he starred in with David, Michael Richards and Julia Luis-Dreyfus, ended its nine-year run in 1998.
