'Idol' Denies Fantasia Pressured to Quit
Aug 2, 2006 - United Press International
Producers of Fox TV's "American Idol" say a Lifetime movie about Fantasia Barrino falsely claims she was pressured to quit the talent competition.
The made-for-TV biopic, "Fantasia: Life Is Not A Fairy Tale," has a scene in
which a producer asks Barrino if she has seen information about her illegitimate
daughter on the Internet and hints she has the option of quitting, the New York
Post said.
"We knew she had a baby right from Day One and she was always strongly tipped to
win the competition because she was so good," Executive Producer Ken Warwick
told the Post. "I can absolutely refute that nothing was done, or even remotely
suggested to her that she shouldn't take part in the competition."
Barrino plays herself in the movie scheduled to air in mid-August on the cable network.
