ATL, for the uninitiated, stands for Atlanta, Georgia and, like any big city, there are two sides of the "tracks".

In South Atlanta, 17-year old high school senior Rashad (Tip "T.I." Harris) and his brother 14-year old Ant (Evan Ross), live with their uncle, George (Mykelti Williamson), who is self-absorbed and very far from parent material. Rashad has had to be like a dad to Ant. Rashad works hard, saves his money for his little bro's future education and isn't happy when Ant takes the "easy" road to do gofer work for smalltime drug dealer Marcus (Big Boi).

To stay sane, Rashad hangs, on Sunday nites, at the local roller skating rink with his posse Esquire (Jackie Long), a great student with college level grades, Teddy (Jason Weaver), a drop out who fits customers with "grills" (custom tooth ornamental stuff) and Brooklyn (Albert Daniels) who doesn't quite fit in cuz he's from...duh..Brooklyn. There will be a skating contest and the crew hopes to win. Rashad meets new girl New-New (Lauren London who has a secret), and Esquire meets a powerful, African-American CEO (Keith David) from whom he hopes to get a letter of recommendation for college. Of course, there are plenty of obstacles to everyone's dreams and goals.
