One Tree Hill co-stars Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray separated yesterday, after just five months of marriage.

Murray, 24, and 23-year-old Bush became man and wife at a seaside ceremony in Santa Monica, California in April - but rumours their union was in trouble surfaced just weeks after they exchanged vows.

Bush says in a statement: "This is a difficult and unfortunate situation. I am glad this is being resolved sooner rather than later."

In a separate statement, Murray expressed his unhappiness: "I am saddened to announce that Sophia and I are separating. This is a very difficult time for me."
