Ashley Benson is a “Christmas Cupid”
On Dec. 12th on ABC Family, you can catch “Pretty Little Liars” star Ashley Benson in a cool TV movie in which she co-stars with Christina Milian. Christina plays Hollywood publicist, Sloane, who is haunted by the ghost of her recently departed infamous client Caitlin, played by Ashley. Borrowing from the classic “A Christmas Carol”, Caitlin takes Sloane on a journey to meet the ghosts of her ex-boyfriends from the past, present and future to try and guide her to true love.
We got on the cell with Ashley to get her take on this holiday movie experience and her own holiday memories.
TeenTelevision: What Christmas movie is something that means a lot to you, that you have to see every year?
Ashley: My whole family, we always watch The Grinch with Jim Carrey. It’s just such a cute movie and they usually always play it on ABC Family in the 25 Days of Christmas, so we’re watching every Christmas movie that comes on there, but The Grinch is definitely one that we never miss together. It’s just such an awesome movie; it’s one of my favorite Christmas movies.
TeenTelevision: What is your best Christmas memory?
Ashley: We go to my Grandma’s every Christmas morning and it’s just my dad’s side of the family and my sister and my mom. We have done this since I was born and we have the same breakfast every single time and then we go on this huge scavenger hunt around my Grandma’s house; she lives up in the hills, so we go everywhere and it leads us to all of our presents and it’s so much fun. That’s something I’m going to be doing forever. I still have a Great-Grandma, so I always get to hang out with her there and it’s just a blast.
TeenTelevision: You’ve gone from being haunted by Alison on Pretty Little Liars, and now you’re going to be the ghost in “Christmas Cupid”. Did you have fun with that?
Ashley: It was a blast. My character, Caitlin is a little similar to Hanna because she’s like kind of a wild child. She’s this famous movie star and does whatever she wants whenever she wants. She doesn’t take no for an answer and she just lives in her own world and she thinks that she can tell anybody what to do and there will be no consequences.
TeenTelevision: How does she die?
Ashley: She goes out to a club and she chokes on an olive from a martini and dies and comes back as a ghost. And she’s just so free spirited, so when she comes back to haunt Sloane, it’s just this huge wild adventure and she takes her through her past, present, and future ex-boyfriends and Caitlin flirts with every single one of them. It’s my first time to be in a real comedy, so I was a little nervous, so hopefully it turns out well.
TeenTelevision: Do you have any favorite memories while shooting “Christmas Cupid”?
Ashley: I think just overall the entire cast and the crew. I’m very close with the people on “Pretty Little Liars” and I didn’t think I could become that close with another project and we only filmed for four weeks or five weeks and me and Christina have become like best friends and it’s amazing. And Chad [Michael Murray] was amazing to work with and we became really close. It was just a really fun environment. We’d all go out afterwards together and go to dinner or just relax at a lounge or whatever, but it was really fun.
TeenTelevision: What will fans of “Pretty Little Liars” like about “Christmas Cupid”?
Ashley: Well, first off, Chad Michael Murray is in it and I’m sure every girl has a crush on him or did have a crush on him because he’s just so cute. And also I just think it’s going to be fun for them to see me as a different character and it’s just a great comedy. Christina and I have really great chemistry together and we kind of bump heads in the movie the entire time and it’s just a blast.
TeenTelevision: What is the best Christmas present you’ve ever gotten?
Ashley: We go to Cancun a lot. My grandparents give that to us as a Christmas present because we have a timeshare there and that’s usually the best because, again, I work so much and I can’t see my family as often as I would love to, so we go on these trips and we just all get to be together for a week and I think that’s probably the best.
I think family is really important so definitely trips that we go on together and that usually happens every Christmas so I’m waiting to see where we’re going to go this year.
