Shaun Sipos: "Melrose Place" Hunk!
Adorable spikey-haired blonde cutie Shaun Sipos stars as David Breck, the estranged son of Dr. Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) on the updated version of "Melrose Place" on the CW starting September 8th.
You might have seen Shaun in various TV guest shot appearances and in the feature films Lost Boys: The Tribe, Comeback Season, Skulls 3, Final Destination 2, Baby Geniuses and The Grudge 2. On "Melrose" his character David starts out having a hot affair with older beauty Laura Leighton who is back as Sydney, a character from the 1990's original show. David is a bit of a bad boy and we luv a guy with an edge. We spotted Shaun sipping his Starbucks on a lawn at a CW party in Pasadena and made a B-line up to him for a chat....
TeenTelevision: Your character is mysterious. He was stealing a painting at the end of the pilot. Is he a bad boy?
Shaun: He's a little bit of a Thomas Crown. That's interesting. I love that they've written that in.
TeenTelevision: Do the showrunners listen to your suggestions for your character David?
Shaun: After the pilot, everybody on the cast had separate interviews with the writing staff and they asked 'what are things you would love to do? What are things you find interesting? What are things that ring a bell with you as to who this character is? Let's collaborate'. We had our input and they took certain ideas and ran with them.
TeenTelevision: Cool! Did you have a bonding session after everyone got cast because most of your characters are living in the same apartment complex?
Shaun: In a very natural way, everybody met and then we had rehearsals and everyone gelled and bonded really well. We weren't forced to hang out. Everybody fell in love with one another and now loves hanging out together. We're shooting out in Van Nuys.
TeenTelevision: What's the deal with David and Laura Leighton's character Sydney? Are they having a cougar/younger guy relationship?
Shaun: David and Sydney definitely had a romance. He really cared about her but she has a whole other agenda. She wants to get back at David's dad Michael and it's terribly wrong (he laughs).
TeenTelevision: So there is a crime against Sydney. Did you do it?
Shaun: (holding up a hand and almost spilling his coffee) I am innocent!!
TeenTelevision: You were very young when the first 'Melrose Place" TV series was on. Have you even seen it?
Shaun: I was a lot younger. I watched a couple of episodes. I was hiding under my parents' coffee table and all I remember is Marcia Cross taking her wig off and she had a big scar on her head. I just remember the very dramatic things.
TeenTelevision: It makes sense that a kid would remember that. So, where are you from and where are you living now?
Shaun: I'm originally from Victoria, B.C. but my family was from Croatia and I speak a little bit (he says 'nice to meet you' in Croatian).
TeenTelevision: Oooo, that sounds great. What was the casting process like for you on this?
Shaun: I was in Thailand traveling. I was in China and Korea. So they called to meet me and tested me with a bunch of other guys. Luckily they didn't cast anyone while I was gone. I came back and met them and they were excited and the network gave me an opportunity. I started filming about five days later.
TeenTelevision: What do you watch on TV?
Shaun: I watch "Mad Men". It's a fantastic show. I rent box DVD sets too. I really want to get into "Deadwood". I've seen a couple of episodes and it looks amazing. I loved "Rome" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm".
TeenTelevision: Of the upcoming new shows, what are you looking forward to other than "Melrose Place"?
Shaun: "Vampire Diaries"
TeenTelevision: Who are you buddies with on the show in real life?
Shaun: Colin Egglesfield and I play really close friends and we really get along. Michael Rady and I get along great. Everybody on the cast really gels.
TeenTelevision: What's it like working with Ashley Simpson-Wentz?
Shaun: She's lovely; a really quirky girl; really sweet, very charming. She's a pleasure to work with. She comes in, wants to go a great job and does her work and is professional.
TeenTelevision: Has Pete Wentz been on set?
Shaun: I've met Pete and seen him a few times but haven't seen him on the set. He's a great guy from the interactions I've had with him.
TeenTelevision: Do you play music yourself and what music are you into.
Shaun: I do. I play the Djembe, an African drum, and I play guitar. I really love the drum. I'm into a lot of the older stuff. I really love classic rock; the Stones, Led Zeppelin. But I like Brazilian drum music. I listen to the beats to learn how they are holding the drum and what styles they are using. I'd love to play in a band.
TeenTelevision: Are you going to seek out other acting opportunities when the show is on a break?
Shaun: Yeah. I'd love to do a movie but I'm really love to do a play.
TeenTelevision: What would you say to potential fans of the show?
Shaun: (very charming grin) Hello! Watch the show. Nice to meet you. I hope you really enjoy it!
