Audrina Patridge is on "Sorority Row"
In the upcoming horror thriller Sorority Row, sexy college juniors Cassidy (Briana Evigan), Jessica (Leah Pipes), Claire (Jamie Chung), Ellie (Rumer Willis) and Megan (Audrina Patridge) are sorority sisters sworn to trust, secrecy and solidarity, no matter what. But, their loyalty is tested when a prank at a house party goes terribly wrong, and a crime is committed. Rather than confess to the crime and risk destroying their bright futures, the girls agree to hide the evidence and keep their secret forever.
One year later, as they prepare to say goodbye to the house and each other, confident that their dark secret remains buried, the girls receive cell phone videos taken the night of the crime from an anonymous sender who threatens to forward it to the police. Soon, the sisters and their unsuspecting boyfriends are stalked, one by one, by an unseen killer.
Reality star turned film actress Audrina Patridge has become a celebrity with the success of the hit MTV television series "The Hills". Her exposure in that series has led to opportunities in film acting, television appearances, fashion design and commercials, including her current bikini-clad spot for Carl's Jr. The 24-year-old up-and-coming actress talked to TeenHollywood, while she was at the San Diego Comic-Con, about being a part of this suspenseful, sexy remake of the 1983 classic horror thriller.
TeenHollywood: How has your Comic-Con experience been? Is it all that you thought it would be?
Audrina: I first heard about Comic-Con from watching "Entourage", a couple of years ago, but I'd never been. This is my first time. There are so many comic fans and people who are dressed up. It's a great experience.
TeenHollywood: How would you describe this movie?
Audrina: Every death is very unique and very gory. It's very suspenseful. It keeps you guessing. And, every time you think the movie is going in one direction, it just twists and you've got to rethink everything. It's almost like a comedy, too. It's got some great one-liners, and lots of girl power.
TeenHollywood: Who do you play in the film?
Audrina: I play Megan, who is a sorority girl. Her boyfriend cheats on her and, if you cheat on one Theta Pi, you cheat on them all. So, we come up with this prank and the prank does not go according to plan.
TeenHollywood: Are there any similarities to the real college sorority experience?
Audrina: There are definitely some similarities. You watch the movie and that's really how sororities are, and the college parties, and the cattiness that goes on. Aside from the killing, yes, there are similarities.
TeenHollywood: Did you have the sorority experience yourself?
Audrina: This was my sorority experience.
TeenHollywood: Did you feel like you and fellow actresses became a sorority while you were filming?
Audrina: Yeah.
TeenHollywood: Was there much partying on the set?
Audrina: Well, we'd go to this little Mexican restaurant down the street, and they had salsa dancing. We could go there and just relax, dance and have a couple of drinks, or we'd all meet downstairs in the hotel restaurant. It was really fun. It was a great experience.
TeenHollywood: Since what happens to your character is what sets off the events of this film, what was the experience of seeing the result of that?
Audrina: We actually just watched it for the first time, and oh, my gosh. I jumped so much, in just watching some of the scenes. When you're filming it, it's not as scary. When you watch it, you're just like, 'Wow!' But, as far as going through it, all the blood, all the screaming and all the make-up that goes into it, you just try to make it look as real as you can, so that it can be an amazing scene. It was a great experience.
TeenHollywood: Are you a fan of horror movies?
Audrina: Yeah.
TeenHollywood: This is a re-imagining of a classic horror film. Did you have a favorite horror film, growing up?
Audrina: I liked The Exorcist because it's so scary and it makes you feel and think. It makes you turn your head and go, 'Oh, my God, is that real?'
TeenHollywood: How sexy is this movie?
Audrina: It's a pretty sexy movie. There are a lot of good one-liners, too. It makes you jump. It's pretty gory and every death is unique, gross and scary. It makes you jump, but it's also really funny. There are surprises. You think it's going one way, and then it twists the other way.
TeenHollywood: Did you have to scream at the audition?
Audrina: We all screamed. Rumer Willis was the screamer of the crew.
TeenHollywood: How has it been to make the transition from the reality show world to the film world?
Audrina: What I originally moved to L.A. to do was movies and not reality television. I just got sucked into that. But, ultimately, doing this movie that will be in theaters was such an amazing experience. I made so many new girlfriends, and it's totally different than a reality show. I loved every minute of it.
TeenHollywood: Do you find that, when you go into auditions, people have a certain perception of you, from being on a reality show?
Audrina: Yeah. I really have to prove people wrong, and just keep going out there and gain their respect. They look at me like, 'Oh, she's just a reality star', but they don't know that that's ultimately what I wanted to do when I moved to L.A. It's hard, but I'm determined and I'm going to prove everyone wrong.
TeenHollywood: Does it help to work with so many other actresses who have had more experience doing acting roles?
Audrina: Oh, yeah. Watching everyone, we all helped each other out.
TeenHollywood: How is acting in film different from being a version of yourself on a TV show like "The Hills"?
Audrina: It's completely different. You actually have a script that you have to memorize. For one week straight, we would shoot nights, sometimes from 4 pm until 7 am. We'd sleep all day and shoot all night. And then, they'd switch it the next week, so we'd sleep all night and shoot all day. You've gotta really put your mind to it and switch into that mentality. Compared to filming a reality show, that's an hour or two, and then that's it. It's totally different, but I love every minute of doing movies. It's, ultimately, what I want to do.
TeenHollywood: How did you adjust to that working kind of schedule?
Audrina: You just keep going. What was awesome was that we were all exhausted, at one point, but we had such a great group of girls that we all just kept the energy up and pushed each other.
TeenHollywood: Are you at a point where you have to decide on an acting career or staying on the show?
Audrina: At this point, I'm almost finished with "The Hills", and I'm still reading scripts and going on auditions for different movies.
TeenHollywood: Is it a whiplash effect in your head, going from to the other?
Audrina: Not really. You just mentally prepare yourself to switch roles. I've done it for so long that I'm used to it. It's pretty easy to switch back into "The Hills".
TeenHollywood: Do you have any idea what you're going to do next?
Audrina: After I finish up on "The Hills", I will move onto a new show with Mark Burnett. And, I'm just reading different roles and going out for auditions for different movies.
TeenHollywood: What is your new show going to be?
Audrina: It will be more about my life, so going and doing movies will be part of it. I can make time to actually go and film a movie, and bring the cameras along, and just really open up and take my fans on the journey with me.
