Stars Shine on Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards
Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz, who won the hearts of kids everywhere as the voices of the love-struck ogre and princess in the animated film "Shrek," were hosts of Saturday's 17th annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, which came complete with scores of celebrities and thousands of gallons of green slime.
The awards, in which kids vote for their favorite actors, musicians and sports heroes, has become one of Hollywood's most star-studded events, with A-list celebrities showing up over the years and allowing themselves to be drenched in buckets of green slime, a trademark booby-prize of Nickelodeon's audience-participation shows.
Celebrities scheduled to take part in this year's show included actor Adam Sandler, who was receiving the "Wannabe Award," given annually to the celebrity kids most want to be like. Musicians OutKast and Avril Lavigne were scheduled to perform and BMX champion Mat Hoffman was to ride his bike into a giant pool of slime.
Diaz, who beat out Drew Barrymore and others to win last year's Kids' Choice Awards celebrity burping contest, was also nominated this year in the favorite movie actress category. Myers was nominated in the favorite actor category.
Celebrities scheduled to present awards included Raven Symone, Hugh Jackman, Kirsten Dunst, Damon Wayans, Tobey Maguire, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Frankie Muniz, Lindsay Lohan, George Lopez, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, Lil' Romeo and Tony Hawk.
Kids voted online and by phone for the winners of the awards show, broadcast live on the Nickelodeon cable network from UCLA's Pauley Pavilion.
